Whitney Houston Becomes Only Woman Inducted Into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame This Year
Whitney Houston Hall Of Fame: Whitney Houston and the Notorious B.I.G. will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year, as has just been announced. Other artists that made the cut are Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers and T. Rex, making it 6 in total.
Originally, 16 artists were shortlisted late last year for induction consideration and nine of them are first-time nominees.
This announcement makes Whitney Houston the only female to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame this year.
For an artist to be eligible for the Rock Hall, their first commercial recording must have been released 25 years prior to the year of induction.
The 35th annual induction ceremony will be broadcast live for the first time on HBO at 8pm and it will be held at its home base of Cleveland on May 2.
It is interesting and unfortunate to note that the disparity in selection is still present until now.
Complaints have rolled on severally that women make up only 8 percent of the inductees of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
Still, this year only one woman, Whitney Houston made the cut, in a sea of men, which is not very encouraging.
On the rap scene, Biggie Smalls will now be the second solo rapper to join the Rock Hall, aftr Tupac was inducted in 2017.
