Drake is one of the most successful artists in the world and has earned plenty of platinum records in his career. We’re pretty sure he’s lost count by now.
A Diamond record has always been something that had evaded him, but the Toronto superstar has achieved it finally.
His mega hit ‘God’s Plan’ is now certified 11x platinum, making it the first Diamond single of the rapper’s career.
RIAA certified the song as Diamond in its latest issue this week, although it has been eligible since February this year.
God’s Plan’ was undoubtedly the biggest hit of 2018, spending 11 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart and countless weeks inside the top 10. The song, was produced by Cardo, Yung Exclusive & Boi-1da.
Amazingly still, ‘God’s Plan’ has not yet turned two years old, as it was released in January 2018. The cut served as the lead single from the hip-hop staple’s massive album Scorpion, which took over the world a little over a year ago.
‘God’s Plan’ is just the eleventh single in the U.S. music history to go past 10 million copies be at least 11 times platinum.
It quickly became Drake’s fourth No. 1 in the U.S. when it debuted in the top spot, becoming the rare immediate smash that needs no time rising all the way to the peak position.
With a diamond award to its credit less than two years after it was released, it’s possible that the single has just managed this amazing feat in a shorter span of time than most, if not all, others in the still-small club.
Drake’s single has just become his first-ever diamond-certified song in the U.S., meaning it has officially moved at least 10 million equivalent units.
