Tyga releases a new clip for one of Legendary‘s hard-hitting opening salvos, “Lightskin Lil Wayne.” Put together by Arrad and Tyga himself, the vignette for “Lightskin Lil Wayne” unfolds as a tribute to Lil Wayne and is made up of scenes that take their inspiration from Weezy’s most recognizable music videos, such as his visuals for “Lollipop” and “A Milli.”
Directed by himself and Arrad, the new visual finds him paying tribute to Weezy F., who he calls the greatest of all time. “Soaking bitches with the champagne, I’m the new lightskin Lil Wayne,” he raps on the hook. “I gotta touch it if them titties fake, I don’t do this shit to entertain.”
“I think, if it sounds good, you gotta go with it. Everything is about timing,” Tyga recently explained to Billboard, breaking down his artistic approach. “Sometimes music [trends] will be slow and more melodic, or go more island-sounding. You just gotta navigate within it. Like right now, Latin and K-pop is really huge, but hip-hop will still always be number one with me ’cause it’s so cultural — it’s what makes music cool. We’re the trendsetters. So whatever we do, people always will want to be a part of it.”
“There’s definitely still room for improvement,” Tyga added, sharing some insight into his current plans and changing the subject to Lil Wayne’s iconic run. “I think turning 30 is like a coming-of-age. That’s who you want to be … I mean, Lil Wayne was ahead of his time, but [being 30 is] when people just 1000 percent believe you. If you look at like some of the best rappers out — Pusha T, Rick Ross, Wayne, Drake, Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye [West] — there’s just something about your thirties that’s just the real deal. Your background is solidified.”
