Kelly Rowland Breaks Sabbatical To Release ‘Coffee’
Its really been a minute since we heard anything from Ms. Rowland. Back in 2018, she released a Busta Rhymes assisted single, ‘Get It’ which also features Missy Elliot. Kelly was also part of the iconic Beychella performance.
The former Destiny’s Child singer had built up anticipation for the song when she unveiled the cover art on social media, also sharing the pre-order link earlier in the week. Fans were of course excited and anticipating the new release.
The reaction is hardly surprising, considering they haven’t had an album from Ms. Rowland since 2017 when she released ‘Talk A Good Game’. It featured the single, ‘Dirty Laundry’.
Last year, she dropped a holiday track ‘Love You More At Christmas Time’ from her movie Merry Liddle Christmas.
Kelly sat down with ESSENSE to share the message behind the song, ‘coffee’.
“I want to celebrate the women in video—every shade, every coffee color, every curve, every essence and what they gave me,” Rowland tells ESSENCE. “My intention I set for the video was to take the light in yourself and your sexuality [and put it in] a God perspective, in a way where you don’t have to get any approval from anybody else.”
